Club captain Ash Jones looks to have played his last game for the club after announcing his decision to leave the Hornets this week. The popular centre-half, who captained the side to their first championship for twenty years after joining the club from Peacehaven & Telscombe in 2015, announced his decision following Tuesday’s friendly with Horsham YMCA. Paying tribute to the club’s officials and supporters, who he labelled “fantastic”, Jones said “I really hope the club progresses as it should and you all get a successful club that you deserve. Horsham FC are such an amazing club to play for.”

Hornets secretary Jeff Barrett called Jones a “great servant to the club who will be sadly missed by us all”, while manager Dom di Paola added “Ash has been a fantastic player for Horsham over the last two seasons and he goes with our best wishes. He will be remembered for his great performances helping the club out of the County League and captaining the side last year through, at times, some tough spells! He was a great lad to have around and was a hugely popular member of our squad. Personally I cannot speak highly enough of him, he never let me down and was always supportive of everything we were trying to do. He will always be welcome back at Horsham and I hope our paths cross in the future. A top class player with a superb attitude – Wezzo, Ian and I are grateful for all he has done for us and the club and wish him all the best with wherever he chooses to go.”
