Horsham 1 Herne Bay 2
Bay rip up the form book to stop Horsham's winning run
Horsham crashed to an opening day defeat at the hands of Surrey side Molesey as our 2017/18 campaign got underway in disappointing fashion.
Largely second best throughout the contest, but having held the hosts to a goalless draw at the break, The Moles broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half when Horsham failed to clear their lines and Ronnie Sobowale converted from close range, and it got worse on sixty-seven minutes as Olu Akinsanya – who ran Horsham’s defence ragged all afternoon – clipped a smart finish between Michael Hunter and his near post to secure the win.
Horsham rallied late on and scored a consolation goal through substitute Toby House, but it was too little, too late at The Moles closed out the game.
Matt Dale brings you a report on the afternoon’s events, now available at the match centre.
