Horsham 4 Burgess Hill Town 2
Improved display sees Hornets through to League Cup Second Round
The Hornets are in mid-week action on Wednesday evening against Ryman Premier Division side Burgess Hill Town, as both sides fight for a place in the next round of the newly renamed Velocity League Cup.
The Hillians are something of a bogey side to Horsham, having knocked out Dom Di Paola’s side at the same stage of the same competition (then named Alan Turvey Trophy) last season, the last time The Hornets enjoyed a competitive victory against the Mid-Sussex side was on Boxing Day, 2005 when Jamie Taylor, Lee Carney, and Gary Charman all scored in a 3-0 Ryman League Division One victory at Leylands Park. Despite the poor record, The Hornets did enjoy a 2-0 win in pre-season in July as Scott Kirkwood and Alfie Rogers surprised the Bostik Premier League side at Culver Road.
With our original tie rescheduled due to The Hilians involvement in the FA Cup, in which they progressed to the 3rd Qualifying Round thanks to a 3-0 win in their replay against Colney Heath, Hill fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Tonbridge Angels on the weekend.
Familiar faces may line up against each club, with Hill sporting former Hornets striker Pat Harding and goalkeeper James Shaw, while Rob O’Toole, Josh James Scott Kirkwood and Darren Budd may line up for Horsham against their former side.
Kick off at Culver Road is at 7.30pm.
