A Tony Nwachukwu brace sandwiched on either side of Darren Boswell’s goal helped Horsham earn an excellent 1-3 win away at Guernsey on Boxing Day against the Channel Islanders.
Nwachukwu got Horsham off the mark in the twelve minute, when he found the net, but The Green Lions equalised in fourteen minutes later when Tom De La Mare dragged the hosts level, while Nwachukwu wasted a golden opportunity just before half time to retake the lead when he fired wide from the penalty spot after he had been fouled inside the box.
Darren Boswell put Horsham back in front just after the hour mark, in front of an understandably low Horsham following who opted to spend Christmas on the mainland – this fixture having been traditionally well turned out by Horsham supporters in the past. But there was further Christmas cheer for the few Horsham supporters who made the journey, as Nwachukwu redeemed himself for his earlier penalty miss and silenced the Guernsey fans by sealing the points late on. A fitting reward for the hard work manager Dom Di Paola and Club Secretary Jeff Barrett had put in to ensure a full squad would line up at Footes Lane.
Sam Borrett, admirably turns down a tray of Turkey Sandwiches and Christmas movie at home, as he makes a gruelling 300 mile round trip to report on the festive fixture at Footes Lane to report on the day’s action, while John Lines deserves as much credit, as he joins him to provide an excellent array of photos that can be viewed at our Flickr page.
