Ashford United vs Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW
Second trip to Kent in a week for Hornets, who head to Ashford United on Saturday
The Hornets will aim to extend their winning run to three games on Saturday, when they visit Whyteleafe’s Church Lane ground fresh from beating Lewes and VCD Athletic and keep their unbeaten run in 2018 intact.
Despite having climbed to 11th on Saturday, wins for both Sittingbourne and South Park meant Dom Di Paola’s side had slid back down to 13th in the table, however they will be full of confidence that they can get a result at 10th placed Whyteleafe, despite having not won at Church Lane since September 2014, when then boss Gary Charman’s side picked up three points in a thrilling 3-4 win. A 3-1 loss last season was one of two fixtures The Hornets lost at Church Lane during the last campaign, while Di Paola’s side also suffered a 3-0 defeat to tenants Walton Casuals who shared the ground during the same season.
Just a point separates Leafe from ourselves, who needed a late goal from Scott Day last weekend to earn themselves a 2-3 victory away at Thamesmead Town and ensure Horsham would not overtake them. The win ensured they picked up their third consecutive victory, since losing away at South Park on Saturday 23rd December. It capped an impressive recent resurgence for the Surrey side, who, with that loss at South Park just before Christmas, had failed to win in thirteen Bostik League game (drawing six, losing seven).
Should Horsham win and other results go our way, victory for The Hornets could potentially lift The Hornets into the top ten for the first time since promotion back into the Isthmian League in 2016.
Kick off at Church Road is at 3pm, with updates available for supporters unable to attend on Twitter and Facebook.
