Double delight for Hyde
Lewis bags two trophies at Player awards night
Horsham Youth’s Evening of Celebration brought out the crowds and produced a packed Goring’s Mead clubhouse last Saturday, where it was standing room only as the evening got under way. Our thanks go to Club Secretary and director Jeff Barrett, who MC’d the evening and began with a small insight to the future of the club, which was very well received from the floor, with the main event of the night following immediately after. Even though the purpose of the evening was to recognise individual achievement over the course of the 2017/18 season, it was acknowledged that these could not be awarded without the squads pulling together on training and matchdays.
Horsham U12s were up first, with Paul and his coaching staff giving an overview of the season and the medals being awarded as follows:
Adam and Simon also gave an overview of the U16s’ season, paying tribute to James Marsh after his horrific illness and thanking the squad for all their hard work over the season. The U16 awards went to:
Ben delivered a funny and entertaining speech for the U11s’ first awards evening and also presented the Autumn Cup to the lads which they won earlier in the season. The U11s role of honour:
After a break for some well deserved pizza from sponsors Dominos, a couple of drinks and a small buffet, the second part of the evening kicked off with the annual Covers Cup – sponsored by Covers Timber & Building Merchants. This award goes to someone behind the scenes that gives that little bit more and, this year, the Covers Cup went to Barry, Angela and James Wright for all their hard work and support over the season. We were delighted that Barry was there to pick up the award on behalf of the family .
After that it was Ian, looking very dapper in his suit, who delivered a witty speech on behalf of his U13 Greens side, that prompted much banter from the floor. The deserving recipients of the awards at this age group went to
Tony then praised the efforts of everyone in the U13 Amber squad and the people who help him along the way, including Horsham U13 Green, with Amber’s winners as follows:
A thoroughly enjoyable evening was rounded off with a raffle, for which all the prizes were donated by the squads and local companies, and which raised £228.00 which will go towards next year’s equipment for the squads.
Thank you to everyone who donated a prize or helped on the night. It was very much appreciated. Roll on next season and our New Home!
