Board’s statement ahead of AGM
Chairman Kevin Borrett's address, ahead of next week's AGM
The new stadium, players, coaches, club finances, and the importance of social media were among the topics covered at last night’s well-attended AGM, held at The Holbrook Club.
Opened by Club Secretary Jeff Barrett, Committee Chairman Sean Bravery then took the floor and shared his views on the 2017/18 Bostik League campaign in which he paid particular praise to the management team of Dom Di Paola, Adam Westwood, Andy McCarthy and physio Steph Apps, after what had proven to be a particularly testing season. Tribute was also given to supporter Derek Burbidge’s feat of attending his five hundredth consecutive game, and also to the club’s youth section – in particular the U12s and U16s who had each reached their respective cup finals. Others to receive acknowledgement were those who had helped make the matchday experience during our temporary stay at Lancing a success – both committee members and volunteers alike – before reiterating the club’s need for additional helpers once the new ground is open.
Director Mark Butler then provided an overview of the club’s finances to the end of the 2016/17 season and a brief summary of its performance in the current financial year. This was followed by the awarding of Life Membership to fellow director David Hillier, who recently completed his twenty-fifth year on the board of Horsham Football Club, a decision that was enthusiastically and unanimously accepted by the members. Jeff was duly re-elected to the role of Secretary, followed by the annual re-election of Vice Presidents and Committee members, before President Frank King gave thanks to Sean for chairing the meeting and paying his own tribute to club officials and supporters for their continued commitment, despite currently having to play our ‘home’ games some twenty odd miles away.
Thereafter followed a Q&A session in which questions were fielded from the floor that, perhaps unsurprisingly, were dominated by the new stadium. Queries on the layout, usage, pitch and opening date were taken as well as questions regarding the introduction of an U23 Development side for 2018/19, with committee member Mark Wells asking for supporters’ help in providing items of club memorabilia to help support an upcoming club exhibit at Horsham Museum. Jeff then gave an overview of the manager’s plans for the new season and revealed that the club will be announcing the signing of a number of new players later this week.
The meeting was concluded around 8.45pm
