Hornets take 3rd place after shoot-out success
The Under 11s went into this game against Worthing Minors with their 2018/19 winning record still intact but both teams have been in great form and everyone was aware that the game would be close, with the winner taking the Emerald trophy home. The majority of the game was played in the middle third, with Worthing’s excellent goalkeeper and centre-half keeping the Horsham attack at bay. Hearts were racing with half-time around the corner as both sets of supporters (and managers) knew it was only going to be a very fine margin that would decide the outcome of the game and Charlie Little came close to breaking the deadlock when, having seen two earlier efforts very well saved, he rattled the frame of the goal.
Lots of changes were made after the break to try and find the breakthrough and Jack Mcmillan was forever flying up the right wing, delivering crosses but failing to find the onrushing strike force. A long kick from Zac Robinson found Dan Baxter who jumped above the defender to head the ball past the goalkeeper but, with the ball rolling towards goal, a Worthing defender slid in to clear the ball off the line. The game began to get physical with both teams wanting the win but the final whistle was blown and a huge sigh of relief went out around the pitch from everyone involved.
Final score 0-0
With a team that were formed only fifteen weeks ago, Horsham finished the Emerald Cup in joint top spot with Worthing Minors with well over a hundred supporters at Southwater Leisure Centre to watch the game.
