Horsham vs Guernsey: MATCH PREVIEW
Celebrate the New Year with The Hornets
The start of the the festive fixtures gets underway on Saturday with a trip to Sussex rivals Haywards Heath Town, with Horsham’s Yellow and Green army still feeling like Christmas might have arrived early after their fantastic 4-2 win against table-toppers Cray Wanderers on the weekend.
Manager Dom Di Paola will no doubt want to make sure no one gets carried away just yet though, as he focuses on gaining revenge against Heath, who earlier this season came back from 0-3 down in the reverse fixture to sensationally win 4-5. That came saw The Hornets race into a 3-0 lead within sixteen minutes, yet The Blues fought back to 3-3 before Chris Smith restored Horsham’s lead with twenty minutes remaining, however Heath struck again twice more as substitute Lewis Finney smashed home in injury time to stun the hosts.
That victory set the tone for Heath’s remainder of the season thus far, having not won in their previous three opening league matches, they have climbed the table up to fifth, three points and two places behind ourselves in third. With both sides very much in-form, something will need to give way. Haywards Heath Town have lost just once in their last six league matches (W4, D1, L1), while they are also unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions.
Saturday’s last round of fixtures saw both teams in the top two lose, as both Horsham and Haywards Heath Town gained ground, helped also down to our hosts this weekend as Town dented Hastings United title hopes with a 2-1 win at Hanbury Stadium.
Horsham have already visited Hanbury once this season, when The Hornets emerged victorious in the Velocity Cup thanks to a 2-5 win.
The action gets underway at 3pm.
