The Hornets usher in 2019 with a home tie against the Channel Islanders, Guernsey, who make the trip over to Culver Road in one of just two games on New Years Day in the Bostik League South East.
With well over a week since Horsham were last in action, the lack of a game on Boxing Day has meant an unusually quiet festive period for The Hornets, with Horsham fans feeling like they ended up with a lump of coal over Christmas, as we fell to a 2-0 loss away at nearby Haywards Heath Town on the Saturday before Christmas Day.
That defeat put a dent in our own play-off aspirations as we dropped down to fifth, however Dom Di Paola will be hoping his men avoid any potential hangover with a win against The Green Lions, who are presently fifteenth in the league. The Channel Islanders’ form is patchy at best. They lost 3-0 in their last fixture, at home to Three Bridges, while their last six league outings are as follows W3, D1, L2. A season of uncertainty blighted their campaign last season, eventually ending up eighteenth out of twenty-four as they battled relegation, however they will still be mindful that they are only five points clear of nineteenth placed Herne Bay (with Thamesmead bottom of the league following their resignation from the league).
Previous games against The Gurners have usually been fruitful for Horsham. The Hornets won last season’s corresponding fixture 2-1 in August 2017 thanks to a stoppage time goal from Rob O’Toole, after Toby House’s early strike appeared to have been cancelled out by Sebestian Skillen with the game looking to be heading for point apiece. The reverse fixture on Boxing Day of 2017 also resulted in a Horsham win, with an improved scoreline for The Hornets who secured a 1-3 victory at Footes Lane.
The club can confirm to supporters, that this match will kick off at the usual time of 3pm.
Our match against Guernsey has very kindly been sponsored by the Horsham FC Match Day Stewards, who do a fantastic job at each game keeping everyone safe, while the match ball has been sponsored by Dennis Strudwick. Once again, the club thanks them all for their continued, and valued support.
