Trips to Guernsey are always one of the first games Horsham supporters look out for, so after the dismay of last season’s scheduling on Boxing Day against the Channel Islanders, there was a great deal of anticipation when Hornets fans realised they would make the trip over the English Channel for the final away game of the season.
As it turned out for Horsham, due to the demise of Thamesmead, the visit to take on The Green Lions has turned out to be the final game of what has been an excellent season for Dom Di Paola’s side. Already qualified for the play-offs, and with home advantage confirmed due to a 4-0 thrashing of Faversham Town on Saturday, the Hornets will be favourites to confirm second place should they beat their hosts.
The Green Lions fell to nineteenth on Saturday due to a 2-3 loss away at Phoenix Sports, and thanks to fellow strugglers Greenwich Borough gaining a point at home to Whyteleafe, the Channel Islanders now sit bottom of the league with two games remaining.
Despite their bleak position, Dom Di Paola will take nothing for granted against our final opponents before the play off finals next week. In our reverse fixture, Horsham suffered a knock to our promotion bid when, after finally getting ahead thanks to Rob O’Toole’s seventy-sixth minute opener, Carlos Canha struck a minute from time to share the spoils on New Years Day.
We get underway at the earlier time of 2pm. Supporters who are unable to attend can keep up to date through our usual social media channels.
